If you take a little walk around Confucius Temple, chance is that you will find the House of Yeh Shi-Taojust at the side of the temple.

The building was once belonged to the Forestry Bureau of the Japanese authority in 1925. Now the 1rst floor was used as the permeate exhibition of Mr Yeh’s works, letters, and photos. The 2nd floor is a drawing room, and a little theatre.

Yeh Shi-Tao (1925-2008) is one of the important Taiwanese writers. Like many Taiwanese writers of his age, Yeh’s early works were mostly written in Japanese. He started to compose in Chinese after the world war in 1965.

His famous quote “Tainan is a carefree city where people dream, work, fall in love, and settle down. The quotes shows his deep affection to this Tainan. In fact, most of his stories is about Tainan and the local way of living. Visitors can get a map at the information desk which shows the old names of different areas in Tainan.
